56th Regiment of Foot (West Essex Regiment) Officer's Glengarry Badge

Worn from circa 1874 - 1881, a two-part riveted construction early glengarry with the castle in silver plate and the garter in gilt. Some dulling to gilt but detail is sharp. Original stout and functional pin fitting and C clasp to reverse. Circa 4.2cms wide and 5cms tall. A rare item.

Both the rose and laurel leave are separately applied making the detail on this badge particularly fine. A die cast bronze example of two part construction with flames to 14 points. Two original blades to the reverse. Mounted on the ball is St George facing left within a motto circle QUO FATA VOCANT. Circa 44mm tall and 27mm wide across the flames. Worn on the FS cap and possibly the khaki beret from 1936 until 1959. More roughly cast than its predecessors but in good overall condition.
