RAF Iraq Levies Parachute Company Cap badge

Cap badge of the Royal Air Force Levies Parachute Company. Nice genuine and scarce badge, cast with fixings as it was made. The actual scan of the badge is the item you get except for the picture/photo of the unit which is not included (but can be viewed at the link below).

The Levies parachute company was raised in Habbaniya in Iraq in 1942 and was disbanded in 1946. It took part in the war in Northern Italy, in Albania together with the Royal Marines Commandos and in Athens in October 1944 to fight the communists. Two different types of the cap badge exist and this is the second type. The first type is without the word Iraq which is replaced with a laurel leaf.

If you cut and paste the link below into your web browser it will take you to some photos in my web album which show the badge being worn by the Royal Air Force Iraq Levies Parachute Company:

Perhaps it is time to re-assess this badge and include it in some of the special forces insignia reference books?
