Royal Navy (GV) Long Service & Good Conduct ( LSGC ) Medal to Marine Raymond Frederick Bryant, Royal Marines with Papers
1st pattern issue medal with fixed suspender, impressed in small upright capitals 'san serif' as follows:
"PLY.16227 R.F.BRYANT.MNE. R.M." (issued Feb 1929).
Condition: contact marks, VF.
Born 1896, in Easton, Bristol. Joined Royal Marines in 1913 and allocated to the Plymouth Division in May 1914. Was present at the Battle of Jutland on board HMS "Erin". Retired from the Navy in 1935, and then joined the GPO in Bristol as a postman. Served throughout WW2 at the Royal Marine Reserve Depot.
He was also entitled a 1914-15 trio and the Defence and War Medals for the Second World War.
Comes with copy service papers (two pages of A3)(ADM.159/158), a copy of census record for 1901, and a London Gazette extract relating to his joining the GPO, as well as a brief biography.
