81st West African Division Cloth Shoulder Formation Sign Badge - Burma

This sun bleached spider has evolved from a black to a brown tarantula spider on a yellow background, so unlike many of the unissued ones on many sites, this one has seen some real service.

They were from units of the West African Frontier Force and saw heavy fighting in the Burma campaign of WW2. Wingate's special force, trained in long range penetration, included one brigade from this Division. The backing suggests tropical jungle green wear. Embroidery in good condition apart from sun fade. Circa 5.5cm square.
