C.L.A.M.O.R. ( Commonwealth Liaison & Monitoring Organisation Rhodesia ) 1979 - 1980 Pangolin Arm Badge on White Brassard

Printed example of the " Ground Pangolin" or scaly ant-eater on a yellow starburst on a red, white and blue diamond, affixed to its original white arm brassard. As worn by members of CLAMOR, the five nation Commonwealth Ceasfire Liaison & Monitoring Organisation Rhodesia, in the period 1979 - 1980. Monitors were drawn from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya and Fiji. the Yellow star burst was to represent the sun rise over the birth of the new nation of Zimbabwe. Arm Badge is 2 inches square, Brassard cloth is 9.5 inches tall. Scarce.

CLAMOR personnel oversaw the ceasefire and elections which led to the "One Man One Vote" elections in Rhodesia in 1980. The Cape Pangolin emblem was allegedly the brainchild of a bored staff officer at HQ in Morgan Girls' School Salisbury in Harare. He had read that to the local people, the pangolin was a good luck symbol. What he hadn't read was that on finding one, it was to be killed and presented to the local chief!
