The most distinctive insignia of any British cavalry regiment, the Motto as it is always referred to by those in the know, was awarded for the defeat of the French at Quebec in 1759. An all brass economy version was issued in 1916. Upon amalgamation with the 21st Lancers in 1922, the Motto continued as the 17/21st Lancers badge of choice.
