Malta George Cross Fiftieth Anniversary Commemorative Issue (original striking) in box of issue with Compliments slip from Malta High Commission, London

ORIGINAL 1ST ISSUE AS GIVEN TO ALL LIVING MALTA CONVOY VETERANS IN 1992.

Mint Cupro-nickel medal instituted in 1992. This is NOT one of the later copies (which has the word "copy" below the right arm of the George Cross) but the original striking with its plain white cardboard box of issue plus the its original accompanying light blue COMPLIMENTS slip from the high commisioner of Malta in London, complete with pin,ribbon & bar ring suspender. Unnamed as issued. Medla is in mint condition, box is plain white but has some damage to one corner. Regretably there are no clues as to the identity of the recipient.

The medal was awarded to surviving veterans who served in Malta in the armed services and auxiliary services between 10 June 1940 and 8 September 1943. Permission for British citizens to wear this medal was subsequently granted by the Queen.
