Rare Victorian 44th Regiment of Foot ( Essex Regiment ) Officer 's Cross Belt Plate

A stunning quality cross belt plate worn by an officer in the 44th regiment of foot, 1st battalion the Essex Regiment.

It is of all brass three-part construction, the badge is removable from its solid brass backing plate for cleaning. It has a wreath around the outside with two circular straps on the inside naming the regiments battle honours of; Salamanca. Bladensburg. Peninsula. Ava. Waterloo and Badajoz. Above all this is Queen Victoria’s crown and below the Egyptian Sphinx.
As all the battle orders are pre the Crimean war, dating it to 1831 - 1855.

The condition is very good, the detailing on the individual pieces are crisp and clean. There is just a small amount of wear to the very high points on the crown and the Sphinx. One corner of the backing plate is slightly bent, but this is minimal and does not affect its display. No repairs or restoration anywhere on this plate.
