William Howard was a pre war regular who enlisted on the 26th June 1907 and went to France on the 27th August 1914 as part of the BEF with the 2nd Battalion the Welsh Regiment (Number 9398). He was entitled to the 1914 clasp and roses and his star looks like it would have been issued with the rank of Corporal on the reverse. He appears to be have been 'busted' back down to Pte and served subsequently with the 18th Yorkshire Regiment ( No 47685) and finally with the Durham Light Infantry. He was discharged on 18th February 1919. Age not given.
Approximately 1,150,000 badges were issued to all services, which had to be claimed and then approved.
