WW2 Parachute Regiment Officers 1945 Hallmarked Silver Collar Badge, Firmin

An attractive officer's sterling hallmarked silvered collar badge with with lion facing to the left and original silver lugs to the reverse. It bears the maker's details F&S ( Firmin & Sons ) and is also embossed Firmin London and stamped with sterling silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1945 (date letter V). Displays well with the item listed above and would make a facing pair. Circa 4cm wide, and 2.3cm tall. In excellent condition and scarce.

For the Birmingham Assay office the date letter changes in July of each year up to 1974. From 1975, all Assay offices have the same date letter which changes in January. So with the war ending in August / September 1945 (depending on whether one counts it from VJ day or the formal Japanese date of surrender), and the date letter V being adopted from July 1945 to June 1946, I just ok to claim this as a WW2 issue, but was most probably worn immediately thereafter until 1952.
