Early 6th Inniskilling Dragoons brass Albert pattern Helmet Plate, circa 1847 - 1871

A die struck large badge in yellow brass with two out of three screw posts to the reverse remaining and some damage to crown in the location of the topmost screwpost, which most probably occurred on its removal from the helmet itself. Of two part construction with the central VR cypher applied to the star with four copper strands. The rococo shield and brass sprays of laurel and oak leaves remain in good condition. A rare item despite the damage to the crown (a small square of brass sheeting could be used to fill the hole behind the crown). The upper slits in the crown are intentional as per the design. Despite its damage, it would make an impressive addition to any Irish cavalry collection. Circa 17cm tall and 15cm wide. Rare.
