8PLNB/HRS 8th Princess Louises New Brunswick Hussars Brass Shoulder Title

The regiment was raised as the New Brunswick Regiment of Yeomanry Cavalry in 1866 being redesignated as the 8th Princess Louise’s New Brunswick Regiment of Cavalry in 1872. After a number of other minor changes in designation the regiment became the 8th Princess Louise’s New Brunswick Hussars in August 1892 a name it was to retain until after WWII. In WWI the regiment provided a Squadron to the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles and in WWII mobilizing as the 5th Armoured Regiment, 5th Armoured Brigade. The regiment served in the 5th Canadian (Armoured) Division taking part in the invasion of Sicily and Italy under command of 1st Canadian Corps. Then along with 1st Canadian Corps transferring to Northwest Europe to come under command of 1st Canadian Army for the final battles against the Nazi’s in Northern Germany and North Eastern Holland. In 1957 a regular army component of the regiment was established the designation becoming the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s).
