5th Battalion Seaforth and Caithness Highlanders Territorial Battalion Officers Hallmarked Silver Badge - 1918

Not the full size glengarry badge as it is only 5.5cms tall. Original pin fittings (C clasp bent shut) with makers mark HT (Henry Tatton) and Edinburgh hallmarks for 1918 (Date letter N). In very good condition. A single eagle's feather indicated a subaltern officers badge. Possibly worn as a sweetheart given smaller size, but scarce in any event.

The battalion was first formed in 1859, early in the Volunteer movement, by the Duke of Sutherland and took as its badge, the Sutherland Crest (the Wild Mountain Cat), with the proud motto "Sans Peur". When the Territorial Force was formed, the battalion changed its name to the 5th (Sutherland and Caithness) Seaforth Highlanders. Disbanded 1946.
