The 11th Armoured Division was formed in 1941. It became part of 21st Army Group. It took part in the heavy fighting around Caen, the breakout of the Normandy beachhead. Fought in Operations Market Garden and in the Battle of the Bulge with distinction, and the sweep across Germany to the Elbe which ended with the German's surrender in May 1945.
