Militia / Volunteer General Staff Large Pattern White Metal Button

A very old design for a military button, and of a rather uninspiring design, it was first described in the dress regulations of 1822 as a 'Frosted Step and Laurel Button', but later referred to as woven button and for some strange reason the 'death-head' pattern. Floating shank, maker marked 'Uniform Clothing & E.Co, London', circa 23mm in diameter. In very good condition. This pattern was worn by Staff in the 19th Century, by the RAChD in black 1911 - 1930, and in gilt anodised by the Adjutant General's Corps 1992 - 1997. This one as worn by Militia and Vounteer Corps Staff. Scarce.
