In 1978, to commemorate his 25th anniversary as Captain General, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh directed that the best all-round musician or bugler completing training each year should be awarded the Prince's Badge. The badge the cypher of Prince Phillip is surmounted by a coronet all within a lyre.
The badge will be worn on all orders of dress and throughout his service no matter what rank he attains.
