Post WW1 Commemorative Sepia Photo of Tombstone to a Soldier of the 9th Battalion The Royal Scots
A photo of a grave stone in an unidentified Tweedmouth church graveyard (although I beleive they were methodists) commemorating Norman Elliot of the 2nd Royal Scots who fell in France aged 19 on the 12th October 1918 and who was interred at Philosophe Military Cemetery (in Pas de Calais, France). So this soldier has two headstones, this one and the one in the CWGC British Military Cemetery in France. It looks like the parents of Norman (John and Martha) lost a daughter also in 1920 (possibly to the influenza epidemic) and the stone commemorates them both. There a supplementary plaque at the front of the grave from the daughter's colleagues at the Tweedside Co-Operative society, presumably her place of work.
An interesting and poignant original sepia photo (smaller than postcard size), blank reverse. Note the accompanying CWGC certificate of remembrance for Norman spells his surname incorrectly as "Elliott". and that his rank was Lance Corporal and army number was 58986. The MIC confirms "Elliot" but his rank is given as a Private.
An interesting genealogist family history item which is worthy of further research. I believe the medals sold as my item are 56052 in some way related.
Photo is sold with a copy of CWGC certificate and Copy of his Medal Index Card (MIC).
