Indian Army - 5th Light Infantry Two Part Large Cast Badge

A two part cast badge with original fixings. Similar to the pagri badge for this unit but in two parts and the shape of the fittings suggest it may have been worn on a shoulder belt or pouch. The bugle has been highly polished and lost some of its detail. The fixing on the numeral '5' appears to have been deliberately bent over. The bugle is circa 4cms wide and3.5cms tall. The numeral which is matching brass and style is 1.8cms wide and 2.6cms tall. Well made pieces and rare.

Nath "Sowers and Sepoys" figures 275/276 for similar items and Cox also as figure 2388 refer.

Formed in 1803, it was one of the few surviving senior Bengal Native infantry regiments left after the Indian Mutiny of 1857, but the regiment was central to the Singapore mutiny of 1915. Disbanded in 1922 after having served in West and East African campaigns.
