Indian Army - QVC Victorian Bengal Medical Service White Metal Pagri Badge
A quite stunning badge, heavy solid struck in one piece in what looks like unmarked Indian silver with original pagri fitting. Circa 6.7cms tall. The VRI monogram (adopted in 1877) is riveted to the centre and the casting is very fine but most probably locally made in India. Most likely an officer's / senior doctor's badge as opposed to an Indian Mess Servant. Indian Medical Service was formed in 1897, so this badge would predate that as standalone Bengal Presidency Medical Service. Worn circa 1877 - 1897. Simply gorgeous.
