Royal Corps of Signals Officer's / Bandsman's Busby Badge, Kings Crown

Most probably a band item, given the number 53 has been painted on the inside. Would have been worn with a red plume on the full dress busby. Of two part construction, comprising a King's crown surmounting crowned domed gilt brass disc (now back to the brass) mounted with silvered figure of Mercury atop the globe resting on bi-part scroll inscribed “Certa Cito”.with Mercury. Provision for red plume to reverse (absent) in the form of shaped brass plume holder with sprung clip and original slider. A scarce item to find with King's Crown (RE 1952). It has seen some service wear, with some dents and scratches to the base of the disc in the main but a pleasing item nonetheless. An impressively large badge, even more so if you can add the correct Scarlet plume to go with it.

The wearing of Full Dress uniform by Officers of the Corps was approved by His Majesty King George V and authorised by the Corps Committee on the 11th June 1930. Officer's Full Dress uniform included the wearing of the Busby and Badge complete with Scarlet Plume. During the pre-war period the Corps Band, when wearing Full Dress uniform, also wore the Busby and Badge with the Scarlet horse hair plume.
