A circular silvered medal with claw and fixed ribbon bar suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah facing left within a ring inscribed ‘DYMM SULTAN HASSANAL BOLKIAH’; the reverse with the insignia of the Gurkha Reserve Service Unit centrally within a ring inscribed ‘PASOKAN SIMPANAN GURKHA’ (GRU motto); on original ribbon, mounted on metal clasp for wear. Medal is NEF except for a black mark obverse (tried lightly cleaning this off but without success). Scarce.

The Medal is awarded to members of Brunei’s Gurkha Reserve Unit for long and faithful service. The Gurkha Reserve Unit was formed as an elite force to guard the Sultanate of Brunei. The conscripts were all ex-servicemen of the British Army but these days, They also hire ex-Gorkha (Indian Army). The British army continues to have a garrison in Brunei.
