South Staffordshire Regimental Band Full Dress Bandsman's Helmet Plate, Pre 1952 Issue
The helmet plate backing is a standard 8 pointed star made of gilding metal with a laurel wreath surmounted by a King's Crown, with more looking modern loops than pre 1914 examples. The Helmet Plate Centre is a detachable circlet and has the words ‘South Staffordshire’ with a Prince of Wales's feathers in white metal with a gild metal coronet and with a black velvet background. The fixings for the HPC have been bent over to secure them. The plate itself has a a solid backing, see K&K Vol2 No 2739. In very good condition and scarce. Although the Home Service Helmet finally went out of general use before WW2, it was (and still is) used by many bands within the British Army.
