The club was founded in Caernarfon in 1847 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs still operating in the world. The club's crest, which is featured on the button, includes the Prince of Wales's feathers, as seen on their burgee and ensign. The club was granted its royal designation and the warrant to fly the defaced blue ensign on May 5, 1847, by the Lords of the Admiralty.
