Essex Rifle Volunteers Victorian Officer's Silver Cross / Shoulder Belt Plate
A very fine unmarked silver belt plate with four original screw posts and back plate. One original washer and retaining nut remaining, others held in place by fibre washers. Maker's tablet to reverse of plate 'S.W. Silver & Co / Cornhill / London. In superb condition and with sharp detail. Circa 1860 - 1883, when the Rifle Volunteer Companies were formed into Volunteer Battalions. This is a generic plate which could have been worn by any other the Essex Rifle Volunteer Companies, of which there were many.
