Edwardian Irish Guards Brass Duty Bed Plate
The Irish Guards was formed on 1 April 1900 by Queen Victoria in recognition of the many acts of courage and bravery performed by Irish regiments during the Second Boer War. This one is attributed to a very early member of the Regiment. Regimental numbers were issued as follows:
1 - joined 1st April 1900.
663 - joined on 14th January 1901
1285 - joined 7th April 1902
1552 - joined 6th January 1903 and so on until
5053 joined on 31st August 1914
So a Regimental number of 673 means the owner most likely enlisted in early 1901. In very good condition. Any additional information welcome.
