A stirring image of volunteers from the Napoleonic times to the Volunteers of 1860s and beyond, cajoling an idle gentleman of means ( or a rake!) to join the territorial / auxiliary forces. References to a quote from George V so this dates to 1912 - 1914 era. The poem on the reverse makes interesting reading. Postally unused, matt finish, name Mrs E Harden to reverse. In very good condition. Crisp image, clothes equally crisp suggesting this was taken before departing overseas. Wolseley Helmet has large regimental flash visible to side. Looks like Suffolk Regiment to me but happy to be corrected. 1st Battalion went to Egypt in 1915 having had a very hard time of it at Ypres.
