47th (2nd London) Division Embroidered Dutch Tile Formation Sign
A small neatly embroidered "Dutch Tile" Formation sign as worn by the Territorial Units of the 2nd London Division (see page facing p16 in Badges on Battle Dress (BoBD) to see a soldier of the London Scottish wearing it). Introduced in 1925 and dropped from use in 1936. See Item 90 in BoBD Vol 1. In very good condition but with a lot of old dried glue to the reverse. Scarce.

An impressive looking badge with a red and black depiction of the Great Cromlech of Stonehenge stones standing on green base set on yellow circle. In good overall condition with bright colours, one small pull on yellow thread, with some blue paper glued to reverse where removed from a display card. Worn from WW2 through to 1989.

Removed from uniform, worn between 1939 and 1945. UK based, a second line Territorial Army Division, it spent a considerable time in Northern Ireland, and acted mainly as a training and drafting Division. In good overall condition.

WW2 - 14th Army Bullion Embroidered Formation Sign Desigation Flash
Locally made to a good standard in bullion as typically worn by officers. The roman numerals "XIV" on a black bar and pierced by a sword on a red (now mainly pink from sun fade) shield. I particularly like the red thread detail picking out the hilt on this example. Circa 6cm tall. Hessian backed. Has some age to it.

WW2 - 14th Army Printed Formation Sign Desigation Flash
A scarce printed pattern narrower than he woven example usually encountered. The roman numerals "XIV" on a black bar and pierced by a sword on a red shield. It has been printed and the background is buff (not yellow, so do not get too excited, it is not a 3rd Indian Armour example). Circa 6.2cm tall and 5cm wide. Removed from uniform, sewn to a jungle green backing. In good condition.

WW2 Royal Artillery 1st Division Felt Formation Sign
A white triangle representing the 1st Division sewn on top of an equally blue and red diamond. Cole states this formation sign was often improvised out of ordnance stores, as appears to be the case of the one for sale here.
the 1st Division fought with great distinction at Dunkirk with the BEF, North Africa in 1942 and then Italy.

Northern Ireland District 3rd Pattern Printed Formation Signs, Kings Crown & QEII issues
Both 3rd patterns, an unissued King's crown calico printers pattern as worn in WW2 and the post 1952 embroidered version with a Queen's crown, the latter in poor overall condition with some damage to the shield's yellow threads.
Davis No 137 refers (he describes the king's crown version of this as being Fairly Scarce - Rare).

WW2 South Wales District (Western Command) Calico Printed Formation Sign
Worn in facing pairs, this one with the red dragon facing to the right. Removed from uniform. In good condition although looks like it has been pinned at some time to a board with a drawing pin just above the dragon's head. HQ at Abergavenny. Of Welsh interest.
