WW1 New Zealand Maori Pioneer Battalion Cap Badge - Gaunt Tablet

In stunning condition, most probably unissued, with two original loops to the reverse and thin maker's tablet JR Gaunt London. Circa 5cm tall. This patttern worn February 1916 - September 1917. This was an all-Maori unit. The battalion disbanded in March/April 1919. Complete with necklace.

The British Section of the NZEF was formed by New Zealanders living in England, and with a strength of seven officers and 233 men, sailed for Egypt on the 12 December 1914. The section was dissolved the following day with the men being absorbed into the Army Service Corps and an Engineer Field Company.
