A large white metal helmet plate with three original dark toned loops to the reverse (one slightly bent over). In excellent condition with sharp detail. In 1888 they were split into three different units: the 1st Durham Engineer Volunteers at Jarrow, the Tyne Division RE (V), Submarine Miners HQ at North Shields, and at new 1st Newcastle-on-Tyne RE (V) HQ Newcastle. Officially this badge was not sanctioned with a GVI cypher until 1948 for wear on the foreign service helmet. Apparently worn by the 3rd Regiment RHA in the Middle East in WW2 - thanks to Alain for confirming.

Very good clean condition, complete with original slider fitting, no warping, an excellent example with good lustre.
