The design for this badge was not fixed until late November 1914 by the Tyneside Scottish Committee, and was replaced by the more imposing 2nd pattern badge in January 1915. Many of the original cap badges were converted to pin fittings. They were issued to the original volunteers to the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd Battalion Tyneside Scottish quartered in Alnwick, Northumberland.

The card is printed in English, so this is possibly a Zeppelin. Postally unused. Stain to reverse. Strange lines run across the image, possibly from when it was developed.
