In superb condition for age, postally unused, no foxing no damage or creases. Patriotic illustration originally published in the 'Daily Graphic' depicting surrender of Boer Forces at Pretoria on 31st May 1900. However, a costly guerrilla war was to continue for the next 18 months.

Postcard in very good condition with pencil comments to reverse.

Awarded the RNLI's gold medal in 1916 and two silver medals in 1913 and 1914 respectively for daring and dramtic rescues including saving 50 crew from the stricken war service hospital ship HMHS Rohilla ( British India Steam Navigation Company). A photo of a grave stone in an unidentified Tweedmouth church graveyard (although I beleive they were methodists) commemorating Norman Elliot of the 2nd Royal Scots who fell in France aged 19 on the 12th October 1918 and who was interred at Philosophe Military Cemetery (in Pas de Calais, France). A good condition cabinet of Royal Artillery solider. Named and dated on reverse in a contemporary ink hand:

"J. Howard, Royal Artillery, Nov 18th, 1899." Possibly taken before his departure to the South African war. Worthy of further research.
