Postally unused with minor corner wear. Evidence of having been removed from an album. Contemporary hand to the reverse identifies the largest house in the image as being called Greencliffe, which was occupied by army officer's and the sandbag wall below was a trench manned by the Royal Engineers. Legitimate military targets after all it would appear!

Royal Munster Fusiliers Cigarette Card Embroidered Silk by E. & W. Anstie

These attractive silks were issued by the tobacco company E.& W. Anstie in WW1, between 1914 and 1916. There were 86 different designs in the Regimental Badge series, of which this is one. Unlike most other silk issuers of the time Anstie wove rather than printed the silk. All Anstie silks were anonymous with no makers marks but are very disguingishable by the woven patterns.

Some corner wear to three corners and a small crease in top right corner, otherwise a good colonial image of the regiment headed by the band on the march in tropical climes, which by the looks of the background is in Africa.
