Circa 22mm in diameter, fixed shank, and maker marked Ranken & Co, Calcutta, with crossed lances, unit initials, 'BLC', surmounted by a flat topped Victorian crown.

These buttons came out around late 1942 to save on brass which was needed for munitions. These were commonly found on greatcoats and ATS War Economy jackets and greatcoats.

Rare Gilt South Gloucestershire Light Infantry Militia Officers Large Pattern Button, 1855 - 1881
Circa 26mm in diameter, fixed shank, maker marked C. Smith & Son, 5 New Burlington Street, London to reverse. Gilt very bright and in fabulous condition. A scarce back mark also.
Ripley lists also the gilt version in his book Buttons of the British Army 1855 - 1970 (No 462 refers).
