WW1 Borough of Burnley Special Constable Constabulary Police Gilt and Enamel Mufti Buttonhole Lapel Badge - Blue Outer Ring

A large badge, 40mm tall in stunning condition apart from stains to reverse and a touch of verdigris to front, although gilt remains bright and there is no enamel damage. Maker marked. Same pattern also found with green and red enamel outer rings. Speculation that this was to signify different ranks.

In 1908 the Leeds based 3rd Volunteer Battalion, West Yorkshire Regt became two separate Battalions - 7 & 8th (Territorial) Bn's, West Yorkshire Regt. Both had the title "Leeds Rifles" but had separate designs for their cap badges.
